TACTICAL PERFORMANCE COILOVERS FOR YOUR MUSTANG
RTR Tactical Performance Coilovers give you the perfect blend of performance and drivability for the street or track. Vaughn Gittin Jr. brought over 15 years of driving experience to the table while developing the Tactical Performance Coilovers for the S197 and S550 Mustangs. While performance and drivability was a top priority for our team, they also needed to be affordable. BC Racing suspension was used on the 2020 Mustang RTR Spec 5-FD that piloted Vaughn Gittin Jr. to win his second Formula Drift championship. We utilize BC Racing’s shock bodies and springs on our RTR Tactical Performance Coilovers with customized valving tuned to our specifications.
We offer Mustang coilovers for the S197 and S550 chassis. If you would like to learn more about our RTR Tactical Performance Coilovers, check out the video below. Jordan Wheeler is joined by Vaughn Gittin Jr. where they drop some knowledge about the Mustang coilovers we offer.
WHAT ARE MUSTANG COILOVERS?
Coilover suspension consists of a shock absorber and a coil spring combined into one unit. The main advantage of coilover suspension is that it allows for adjustable ride height, which means that the driver can lower or raise the car to suit their driving style or road conditions. This type of suspension also provides better stability and control during cornering, as well as improved braking performance. Overall, coilover suspension is an essential upgrade for anyone looking to take their driving experience to the next level.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PROGRESSIVE SPRINGS AND STATIC SPRINGS?

Progressive springs and static springs are two types of suspension springs that can be used based on your driving preferences. We chose progressive springs for our RTR Tactical Coilover Suspension because we wanted to achieve a balance between ride quality and functionality.
Progressive springs have a variable spring rate that changes based on how far they are compressed. As the spring is compressed further, it becomes stiffer and requires more force to compress. This variable spring rate allows for a smoother ride over small bumps while still providing enough stiffness to handle larger impacts such as potholes or speed bumps. In terms of performance, progressive springs offer several advantages over static springs. They provide improved handling characteristics by reducing body roll during cornering while still maintaining comfort during normal driving conditions. Progressive springs also allow for more precise tuning and customization of your Mustang's suspension setup. Check out our other RTR Tactical Performance Front and Rear Sway Bars to complete the full suspension setup.
Static springs, also known as linear springs, have a consistent spring rate throughout their entire range of compression. This means that the amount of force required to compress the spring remains constant from the beginning to the end of its travel. Static springs are typically less expensive than progressive springs and are often used in entry-level or budget-oriented suspension setups.
Overall, choosing between progressive and static springs depends on your specific needs and preferences as well as your budget. It's important to consider factors such as ride quality, handling performance, cost, and compatibility with your Ford Mustang when making your decision.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN COILOVERS AND SPRINGS?
The main difference between coilovers and springs is that coilovers are a complete suspension system consisting of a shock absorber, spring, and allow for adjustability, while springs are just one component of a suspension system that don’t allow for any adjustability. Coilovers offer several advantages over traditional spring setups, including adjustable ride height, improved dampening capabilities, and more precise handling. Additionally, coilovers often come with stiffer spring rates than stock springs, which can improve stability and reduce body roll during cornering. However, coilovers are generally more expensive than just replacing the springs in an existing suspension setup. Ultimately, the choice between coilovers and springs will depend on your driving style, performance goals and budget for your Ford Mustang.
