Mach-E 1400 Media Day at Charlotte Motor Speedway

It’s been a while since we’ve featured the Mach-E 1400. It was in China for a couple of months to help promote the launch of the Mach-E in the Chinese market. While overseas, the Mach-E 1400 was a static display at various Ford dealers throughout China. Check out the unique livery it wore while there.
Once it got back to the Lab, it received a fresh new livery for its first media day since returning back to the United States. Enough of the back story, let’s get into what went down at Charlotte Motor Speedway!
Our team arrived at Charlotte Motor Speedway the day prior to the event, to make sure the Mach-E 1400 was up to spec for when the journalists hop in the driver's seat the next day.
Vaughn took the Mach-E 1400 out for a few laps to make sure everything checked out and was operating properly. After the tires were up to temp, he really stretched the Mach-E 1400’s legs and put in some aggressive laps.
The Mach-E 1400 was brought back to the pit area and Vaughn requested some small suspension changes to make the car feel perfect. The team started disassembling and fine tuning the suspension.
After the suspension adjustments were made, Vaughn hopped back in and made sure everything felt right and it did. We had a few extra hours of daylight before we wrapped up for the day, so we took advantage of the open track and brought our RTR Design Package Mach-E GT out on track for some photos. This is the first time it has been seen and will be available soon!
If you look at the image below, the machinery to the left of the image is what we call a cooling cart and it has a pretty cool story behind it. In case you haven’t learned anything new today, allow us to change that for you by telling you what it does.
The cooling cart is an external cooling system for the Mach-E 1400’s battery pack. The battery pack creates a lot of heat during high discharge and charge rates. The cooling cart allows us to dissipate heat while charging the battery pack. Because the density of the battery pack is so great, it can’t dissipate heat that well on its own. It circulates 50 gallons of dielectric coolant per minute without varying the pressure of the battery pack with a variance of less than 1kPa (kilopascal).
Fast forward to media day, there were three lucky automotive journalists that were able to get behind the wheel of the Mach-E 1400. Jonny Lieberman (MotorTrend), Ezra Dyer (Car and Driver) and Dan Carney (Design News). Each of them spent some time behind the wheel of the Mach-E 1400 around Charlotte Motor Speedway with Vaughn riding shotgun.
